\nRedefinition of the Kilogram\n<\/h2>\n\n

For many decades, the kilogram was defined by the so-called International Prototype of the Kilogram \u2013 a physical artefact kept at the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM) in S\u00e8vres near Paris. Since May 2019, the definition of the kilogram has no longer been based on a physical artefact, but on an unchanging natural constant.<\/p>\n\n

\nOne of the reasons for this redefinition was the recognition that a physical standard can change over the long term. In high-precision mass metrology, even the smallest deviations can play an important role.\n<\/p>\n\n
